We were asked by McCann to produce a series of HTML5 mini-games that would drive competition entries to play in a virtual tennis tournament as part of MasterCard’s sponsorship of the Australian Open.
With a tight turn around required, the project came in two parts; the first would drive competition entries via an online skills based game and the second was the development of an on-location touch screen tennis game that would be played both by competition winners and celebrity players.
We developed a series of ideas, taking the lead from McCann’s initial concepts and designed and developed the solutions to create maximum engagement for the client.
The end result delivered many thousands of entries over a short period, and attracted large crowds at the Australian Open with competitors taking part in the real time multiplayer table-top game, custom built with deep branding integration for MasterCard.
The Tap Tennis Tournament then culminated in an on-air match between tennis legends Martina Hingis and Lleyton Hewitt live on Channel 7 television’s Sunrise program.
The charming novelty and high quality execution of the concept proved to be a great success, by it’s nature generating engagement and wide exposure for MasterCard.
